Story

The idea behind the work

Discernment shows in how we choose to respond to an injustice. The work suggests that we can keep our own values without taking on the behaviour of the one who hurt us.

The meaning in the painting

A golden branch breaks away from a cracked mineral ground and crosses the dark areas without hiding them. The leaves turn the branch into a sign of life and continuity: strength lies not in answering with the same harshness, but in keeping one’s own direction clear. The contrast between the fragile leaves and the cracked matter gives the image tension and balance.

Craft

A finished work

Materials, frame and finish complete the identity of the work.
